Putting together a wardrobe from scratch can be a daunting task. Especially for those without someone to guide them. While creating a Bespoke closet requires knowledge, time, and a bit of creativity, there are a few staples of every wardrobe. From the nightclubs to the board room, every man needs these essential items in his closet. Here are the modern man’s wardrobe essentials.
A three-piece suit is possibly the most iconic look for any gentleman. Preferably, Bespoke. Depending on your lifestyle and career, a suit could be either an everyday wear or special occasion look. It’s essentially three different looks in one. The most important thing is to ake sure your suit is properly fitted and well maintained. This is where a quality tailor comes in.
Blazers bridge the gap between formal and casual by being diverse and easily customized. Paired with a nice pair of dress slacks or designer jeans, the diversity of this piece is infinite when it comes to fashion. Be sure to select a light weight and quality material. Part of the Blazer’s appeal is its portability and ability to not wrinkle as much as a regular suit jacket.
A simple white button up is an absolute must have. It’s universal and stands the test of time. For a more customizable wardrobe, add in a pastel shirt also. Maybe a light blue or pink.
Possibly the most diverse shirt in a man’s wardrobe. The polo shirt can be used as an everyday wear or accessory to a more semi-formal look when paired with a suit or Blazer. Choose a lightweight material if pairing with a blazer. Polo’s can get notoriously hot when compared to a traditional button up.
Chinos have been around for quite some time. But it’s only recently that they’ve become a staple of fashion for the modern man. Diverse and durable, Chinos come in a wide range of cuts, colors, and material. Find what works with your looks and double up. Two pairs of different color and weight.
The old workhorse. If all else fails, invest in a great pair of jeans. And yes, you can get them custom made. Selvedge denim is what you want to use when getting a pair of jeans made or buying some pre-made. Durable and good looking.
The Dress Shoes
Your choice of dress shoe is going to depend on your style. And you really only need one pair to start. Especially if you aren’t going formal very often. We recommend a good pair of Oxfords. A good pair of cap-toed Oxfords will give you a sartorial look that’s hard to beat.
Sneakers are essential for a more casual look. Even semi-formal. The staples like Converse and Vans are great places to start. But you want to be sure they’re not athletic shoes. Look for a casual sneaker that’s designed for fashion instead of function.
This is the icing on the cake. And like cake, it depends on your tastes. Of all the accessories that you can choose, a tie is the most widely worn and needed. As the modern man, you’ll have several occasions where a tie is not only appropriate but mandatory. Outside of that, everything else is optional. We would recommend investing in a nice set of cufflinks. High-level Bespoke style right there.
An Overcoat is going to depend on where you live. What works in London won’t likely work in Bangkok. So definitely customize this to your needs. From a pure fashion standpoint, you can’t go wrong with a solid Peacoat or Trench coat. A double-breasted Peacoat has long been a fashion staple and the Trench coat is a casual icon.
The Lightweight Jacket
To offset the size and warmth of the Overcoat, be sure to also have a smaller light weight jacket. Mainly for light rain or windy days. Take a look at suede for the material. It’s been making a huge comeback in outerwear.
